Terms of Service
This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you ("User") and Camus Technologies, Ltd. ("Developer," "we," "us," or "our") for the use of Philosopher's Forest ("the App"). Apple Inc. ("Apple") is not a party to this Agreement.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by this Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. License Grant
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on iOS devices that you own or control, in accordance with Apple's Usage Rules and this Agreement. This license does not transfer ownership of any content, code, or intellectual property.
2. Age Requirement
The App is rated 16+. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 16 years of age.
3. AI-Generated Content
Philosopher's Forest uses artificial intelligence (Anthropic's Claude API) to generate dialogue for NPC philosopher characters. You acknowledge and agree that:
- NPC dialogue is generated by AI and is fictional. Philosopher characters are fictional interpretations inspired by historical figures and do not represent the actual views of those individuals.
- AI-generated content does not constitute advice of any kind — including but not limited to philosophical, psychological, medical, legal, financial, or professional advice.
- We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness of AI-generated content. Despite multi-layered content moderation, AI responses may occasionally be unexpected or inaccurate.
- You must not rely on NPC dialogue for real-world decision-making.
- You must provide explicit consent before AI dialogue features are activated. You may withdraw consent at any time through the App's settings.
4. User-Generated Content
You may create content within the App, including dialogue messages in multi-party rooms and City Cafes, postcards (up to 280 characters), and content reports.
4a. Prohibited Content
You agree not to create, submit, or share content that:
- Harasses, threatens, or intimidates other users
- Contains hate speech or promotes discrimination
- Is sexually explicit or pornographic
- Promotes self-harm or violence
- Contains spam, advertising, or solicitation
- Attempts to manipulate or override AI character constraints
- Shares personal information of other individuals without consent
- Violates any applicable law or regulation
4b. Content License
You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to store, display, transmit, and moderate your user-generated content as necessary for the operation of the App and its social features.
Exception: Commonplace book entries (your private journal) are excluded from this license. These entries are stored for your personal use only and are never shared with other users, transmitted for moderation, or sent to any third party.
4c. Content Moderation
All user-generated content is subject to automated AI moderation before transmission. We reserve the right to block, remove, or restrict access to any content that violates this Agreement. Users may report objectionable content using the in-app report function. Content reports are reviewed within 24 hours.
4d. Blocking
You may block other users at any time. Blocks are bidirectional and enforced at the server level.
5. Virtual Economy and In-App Purchases
5a. Dialogue Turns
The App provides 15 free dialogue turns per day, resetting every 24 hours. Additional turns may be purchased:

5d. General Terms
All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's terms and refund policies. Virtual items and turns have no real-world monetary value and cannot be transferred, traded, sold, or redeemed for cash. We reserve the right to modify the daily free turn allocation, pricing, and virtual economy with reasonable notice to users.
6. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account for repeated violations of this Agreement, manipulation of AI systems or moderation circumvention, harassment of other users, or any activity that threatens the safety or integrity of the App.
During suspension, dialogue features are disabled. Purchased non-consumable content (philosopher unlocks, cosmetics) is retained and restored upon reinstatement. Unused purchased turns are retained during suspension.
7. Privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the App, you consent to the data practices described therein.
8. Intellectual Property
All App content — including but not limited to characters, artwork, music, game world design, and software — is owned by Camus Technologies, Ltd. or its licensors. Philosopher characters are fictional interpretations inspired by historical figures; no claim is made to the identities or estates of historical persons.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that AI-generated content will be accurate, appropriate, or uninterrupted; that online features (dialogue, multi-party rooms, City Cafes) will be continuously available; or that the App will be free of errors or defects.
10. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CAMUS TECHNOLOGIES, LTD. SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES ARISING FROM AI-GENERATED CONTENT, USER-GENERATED CONTENT, SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS, OR RELIANCE ON IN-APP CONTENT.
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for in-app purchases in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Apple-Required Terms
You acknowledge and agree that:
- This Agreement is between you and Camus Technologies, Ltd., not Apple.
- Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support services for the App.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the App, including product liability claims, consumer protection claims, intellectual property claims, or any claim that the App fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements.
- In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the App (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this Agreement. Upon your acceptance of this Agreement, Apple has the right to enforce it as a third-party beneficiary.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the App.
12. Governing Law
This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan), without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any disputes arising from this Agreement shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the courts of Taipei, Taiwan.
13. Modifications
We may update this Agreement from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated Agreement.
